So, let’s talk about workplace culture.
This won’t be the first article you’ve read on the topic. It’s probably been discussed more than Kate Middleton’s Photoshop scandal. However, it still seems hard to nail down exactly what it takes to build a positive culture.
The Elephant in the Room: Negativity
Like a stubborn stain on your favorite tie or piece of gum on the sole of your shoe, negativity can ruin the vibe faster than microwaving fish in the office kitchen. Leaders should make a point of promoting positivity (say that 10 times fast!) by setting a good example, recognizing achievements, fostering collaboration, and encouraging work/life balance. Remember: Positivity is like a good haircut…it makes everyone feel better.
Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork
Ah, teamwork! The glue that holds the company together. At first, teamwork may be a bit like herding cats, but the effort leads to purr-fectly (see what we did there?) aligned goals and a strong company culture. Leaders should aim to keep everyone on the same page, foster collaboration and inclusion, encourage bonding, and celebrate wins together.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Just like Aretha always said, respect is crucial. It goes a long way toward strengthening work relationships. From listening to others opinions with an open mind to not scarfing down someone else’s lunch from the fridge (we know it was you, Avery), treating team members with respect fosters trust and helps build a work environment where people feel comfortable sharing innovative ideas.
Strawberry Is Tasty… But So Are the Other Flavors
Just because someone looks different from you or is older or younger than you isn’t a reason to leave them out. They may have some awesome ideas! Leaders should encourage teams to embrace diversity and learn from each other’s backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Building inclusive teams adds creativity, paves the way to relate to diverse customers, fosters empathy, and makes innovation efforts sizzle!
Putting together a positive workplace culture can seem more difficult than training a flamingo to ride a unicycle. It’s not! By sprinkling in positive attitudes, and encouraging teamwork, respect, and inclusivity, companies can build a culture that’s cooler than even the best Dad jokes!
We are rooting for you!
